Winners The 32nd annual American Music Awards, hosted by Jimmy
Kimmel, took place on November 14th, 2004. A wide range of artists took
the stage as presenters and performers, including No Doubt’s Gwen
Stefani, who kicked off the show with a solo performance of her new song
What You Waiting For?
The top winner of the evening was Usher with 4 awards, including the
award for Favorite Album for Confessions, in the Pop or Rock category.
OutKast took home the award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group in the Pop
or Rock category, as well as two more awards in the Rap/Hip-Hop
category. The awards for Favorite Female Artist - Pop or Rock and
Favorite Artist - Adult Contemporary Music were presented to Sheryl
Crow. The evening’s other winners included Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Linkin
Park, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, Marc Anthony, MercyMe,
Gretchen Wilson, and Bon Jovi, who took home the Award of Merit.
Created by Dick Clark in 1973 as an alternative to the Grammys, the
American Music Awards are one of the few award shows that fans can
attend and participate in. The fans voted for Kenny Chesney as their
favorite artist, in the T-Mobile Text-In Award category.
