Arch Enemy hails from Sweden and was formed in 1996 by former ex-Carcass and Carnage guitarist Michael Amott. Their beginning line up was Johan Liiva – vocals and bass guitar, brothers Michael and Christopher Amott – both doing lead and rhythm guitars and former ex-Eucharist drummer Daniel Erlandsson, making their debut album “Black Earth.” Their musical style started off sounding heavier and darker eventually shifting to modern day Arch Enemy who sound more extreme and have a much tighter, more put together sound. By their third album “Burning Bridges” they recruited current Witchery/Sinergy and ex-Mercyful Fate bass guitarist Sharlee D’Angelo to the team. In 2001 they had yet another, but very shocking line up change. They recruited a female vocalist, Angela Gossow from Germany for their hit album “Wages of Sin,” which has “Ravenous” on it as one of their most popular songs. It was soon revealed that Gossow was not just another pretty face but a ferocious flaxen-haired beast with vocals that brought shame to her male competitors. By 2003 it was evident when they made “Anthems of Rebellion” and their biggest song of all time “We Will Rise” that Gossow was there to stay. Not only does the band put out astounding music, they have a message to their fans and the world. They’re rebellion metal and they show everyone who’s boss. Arch Enemy’s music style is often mistaken as “Death Metal” when it actually has a much more interesting/unique sound bringing out strong melodies and a great guitar duo pulled off by Michael and Christopher Amott. Drummer Daniel Erlandsson is also renowned for insanely fast double bass drumming and a strong influence on the band’s musical sound. Arch Enemy is Japan’s biggest metal act and have received awards such as “Best band of the year,” “Best vocalist of the year” and “Best drummer of the year,” from the Japanese. Their fame and popularity continue to grow daily, and as there become more Arch Enemies in the world, their music remains always, at the top.
