On March 27, 1970, Mariah Carey was born to Patricia Hickey and Alfred Roy Carey in Long Island, New York. Mariah rose to stardom in 1990 with her self titled debut album and has suprassed all others to become the Biggest selling female artist in Music History. Blessed with and astoundind 5-7 octave range; one of the largest vocal range of any artist, Mariah as secured her place as one of the greatest pop vocalist ever.She was voted as having the Greatest Voice in Music in Mtv's 22 Greatest Voices countdown.
Mariah Carey is the third and last child of Patricia and Alfred. Her mother was an opera singer of Irish ethnicity and the father was half Venezuelan, half African and so the family had their fair share of racism. The parents would eventually divorce when Mariah was three.
Patricia realised that her daughter was very talented at an early age and so helped Mariah to perfect her Musical talent.
Mariah began to write her own songs as early as in high school,and at age 17 she moved to new york city to persue her Musical talent. Her big break arrived when her demo tape got in the hands of the president of Sony Music, Tommy Motollo.
A fresh face in the Music industry which was ruled by Whitney Houston and Modonna at the time, Mariah burst on the scene and immediately made a profound impact.Her first album earned her two Grammy awards in 1991 for Best New artist and Best Female Pop Vocal performance. Throught out her carrer, Mariah has gone on to sell over 185,000,000 records and have won two Grammy awards, 8 American Music Awards about 100 other Industry awards.
